Consumer and Small Business Protection Act
Although New York is a leader in certain other areas of consumer protection, it lags far behind at least 39 other states when it comes to protecting consumers from unfair and deceptive business practices.
New York’s current law, GBL § 349, has not been significantly updated in decades.
The law bans deceptive business acts and practices but not unfair acts or practices, as most other states do, leaving New Yorkers vulnerable. CSPA will amend GBL § 349 to bring the state’s consumer protection standards up to date.
